In Dianne Duvall's world of Immortal Guardians, the stakes for mortals are high, but the cost--especially to the heart--might be higher...

It's not the first time Immortal Guardian Richart d'Alençon has saved a human life from eternal damnation. Usually, he moves on, a nameless savior like a ghost in the night. But this time he can't seem to forget the woman who rewarded him with a sensuous kiss after he rescued her from a trio of vampires. While Richart knows that loving a human can only bring trouble, the taste of forbidden lust is too great to resist...

Jenna never imagined she'd end up a single mom working overtime to put her son through school. But she might have daydreamed once that a devastatingly gorgeous Frenchman would sweep her off her feet. Now that a package of tall, dark, and handsome seems intent on doing just that, doctors are telling her she may not have long to live. But Richart is telling her just the opposite. All she has to do is abandon her humanity...

In Still Darkness Immortal Guardians series edition by Dianne Duvall Paranormal Romance eBooks

Generally I would only give a four star to something so short but this is such an good book that I had to give that little more so others may be encouraged to read this series.

I love this author because her world-building has been so clever. It is just that little bit, not a lot but just enough to make it an above average series and her characters are all so likeable even if somewhat broody. The men love with passion, the same passion that they have to protect the innocent and it is so nice to sit down with something that doesn't fail you in providing a good time.

This one centres on a very sweet love story. He sees her, helps her and is captivated. There is no drama, just two people falling in love and it is lovely. The book also knits together some things and opens up a few others for the future of the series and on the whole was a really good read. This lady can write, she can give action and romance, a bit of sex and some honourable people a chance to connect with readers for a warmth and thoroughly enjoyable experience. Trust me the longer books are even better!

In Still Darkness Immortal Guardians series edition by Dianne Duvall Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews

There are so many paranormal romances on the scene at the moment, and the Immortal Guardians are one of the better ones. They follow a similar format to others in the genre, but this is a well written series where each character has a well defined personality and the stories flow nicely.

Here we get Richart and Jenna's story. It was definitely short and sweet. I enjoyed the interactions between Richart and John (Jenna's son). It was surprising to find out that Jenna is 37 but I though the age of both characters was handled well. We had tears, laughter, action and romance. Richart and Jenna got enough 'screen time' but the overall story arc was developed as well.

I wanted to give this 5 stars, however one thing bugged me. What happened to Ami? Why was that left hanging? I know we got a few lines explaining the situation but I felt that it was simply swept under the carpet. I understand that some major storylines need to be left for a full sized novel but things ended too abruptly.
Dianne Duvall's Immortal Guardians is one of my favorite vampire type series, and since I love vampires that's saying a lot! The reason I call it vampire type, is because in these books, the vampires are infected with a virus and end up going mad, while the Immortal Guardians have the same virus, but are gifted ones with special abilities, and advanced DNA, that keeps them healthy, sane, and of course immortal.

This is Richart d'Alencon's story and while I was wishing for a much longer story for him, I was glad we finally got his story, and by story I mean, his turn to fall in love. One night while out on patrol searching for vampires, he saves a woman from some vampires. Afterwards, he can't seem to forget her, but since she was drugged from the vampire bite, she has no idea who he is, nor does she remember being attacked. So he has to find a way to meet her, and of course he does.

The story is also Jenna's,and she's a widow, with a son in medical school. She is older(very refreshing), and barely makes ends meet, but she's a good person and an even better mother. Meeting Richard is the most exciting thing that has happened to her in years. She has no idea what he really is. I liked her character a lot. Her son, John, is a pretty great character as well, and I look forward to seeing him in future books-hopefully?

Since this is a novella, I am not going to tell more of the story, as I don't want to ruin it for the reader. It was short, but even so, told a good story of Richart's and Jenna's romance. I enjoyed the read, but like I said before, I really wanted more. I guess I was wishing for a full size book, but since that isn't happening, I will just have to be happy that the author has a new book coming out soon titled, Night Unbound, and I have already pre-ordered it!

I should be noted that it is an adult read, and I recommend it to all adult paranormal/urban fantasy fans.4.5 stars out of 5 (PureTextuality.com)
I find these to be pretty predictable. I am getting very tired of the main plot line, the hoards of vampires out every night chomping and ripping at the local university students. Students disappearing and becoming new vamps themselves. I keep wondering when the university is going to notice it's enrollment decline and close the place down. Then there are the hunky Immortals who's ages span pre-Christ to just a few decades. The author started with a certain number of Immortals but now keeps introducing more of the same, they all look alike, do about the same thing except for their particular talents, they would be identical. The story line has lost my interest. The best books were the first three, after that the author is just adding more of the same with a few new twists to the characters to get out more books and more profit. The author writes well but is now selling out her talent.
A few books ago I would have given more stars, maybe if I keep reading I'll give them a one.
This book feels more like a traditional romance than the rest in the series, it is sort of a mini vacation from the overarching storyline.
Although there is still a bit of action, it borrows these scenes from Night Reigns, book two (mainly) and Phantom Shadows (book three) as a passing mention. In rereading this series I have read this novella as both 2.5 and 3.5 and am not really satisfied with either solution, it does need to be read after Phantom Shadows (book 3) because if you read it earlier there will be a spoiler. At the same time it begins and mostly takes place during the events of Night Reigns (book 2) so I feel like I am going back in time when I read it in the correct order. Overall this novella gave me warm fuzzies and even if I can't quite figure out when to read it, read it I do.
